2020 – Ranger Services
Introduction
Opterra, in collaboration with Länsstyrelsen Värmland, spearheaded a crucial initiative to bolster ranger numbers in key areas, fortifying the region’s defenses against poaching and environmental crimes. Our concerted efforts aimed to safeguard Värmland’s natural treasures, ensuring their protection for current and future generations.
Enhancing Ranger Deployment
Central to our strategy was the implementation of ranger services strategically deployed in critical locations. Through heightened surveillance and proactive patrolling, Opterra played a pivotal role in deterring illicit activities and maintaining the integrity of Värmland’s ecosystems.
Comprehensive Predator Inventory
In tandem with our on-the-ground operations, Opterra undertook the essential task of partaking in the annual predator inventory. By employing cutting-edge techniques such as DNA collection and predator tracking, we garnered essential data to help our client better understand and manage the region’s wildlife populations.

Evaluating Digital Solutions
Furthermore, as part of our commitment to innovation, Opterra took on a secondary role in evaluating digital solutions for tracking observations and assets. Among the solutions tested, SMART emerged as the undisputed leader, surpassing alternatives like Collector by ArcGIS. Its tailored plug-in and superior functionality proved instrumental in logging GPS tracks and effectively managing field devices such as camera traps essential to predator population monitoring.
Conclusion
Opterra’s unwavering dedication to conservation and technological advancement ensures that Länsstyrelsen Värmland remains at the forefront of wildlife protection and environmental stewardship. Together, we stand united in our mission to preserve Värmland’s natural heritage for generations to come.
